Earlier today, the Falkland Islands Government announced that Falklands Post Service Limited will be taking over services currently provided by the Royal Falkland Islands Police licencing office. This change will take effect from Monday 8th November 2021.
Services that are moving from RFIP to FPS are:
- Vehicle taxation
- Driving licence applications, renewals and replacements
- Change of circumstances for driving licences – e.g. new address
- Registration and change of vehicle ownership
- Payment for criminal records checks and firearms licences
Speaking to us about the move, Lindsay Bonner, FPS’s Manager, said “The team at FPS Ltd are excited about the launch of the Licencing Service from the Post Office, a lot of time and work has gone into preparing for this so it’s great to finally see it happening”.
With a customer-focused approach, the team isn’t just aiming to offer the same services as RFIP and already had improvements planned. Lindsay noted that “FPS Ltd will be focusing on enhancing the service for customers, starting with additional opening hours, payment via debit and credit card, and the option for processing vehicle taxation online.”

Once the service transfers on the 8th of November, you’ll be able to access FPS Limited’s web-based services 24/7 via falklandstamps.com. The in-store services will be provided Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.
The Chamber has included in its Election Priorities a call for the government to actively consider areas where services currently provided by the Falkland Islands Government could be transferred to the private sector, where it is in the public interest to do so, and we hope that this trend will continue.
